It is really confusing that the network icon is exactly the same as the
modem icon.

Is there any way to change one of these?

Thanks

Noel

Hi Noel

1. Open Display in Control Panel
2. click on desktop
3. click on button Costumize desktop
4. Select the icons you want to change using the button
change icon

Is done!!

Adios!!

Hi Alex

Great idea but on my XP system the 'double computer' icon that sits in the
system tray does not appear, so I can't change it!

Hi Noel

I do not understand what you mean, but I try to figured
out.
Do you mean you can't find the My network places icon in
the list??
or maybe you can't find the icon you want for this item??

in the second case you most select the item you want to
change the icon, then click on change icon, then select
one icon from the list, if not find the desired icon
click in browse and search the PC for icons or some dll
files, they contain new icons you can use.

In case is a shortcut or folder you have or another icon
(not system) then you can do it more easy

1. right click in the item
2. select properties
3. select the tap shortcut
4. click in change icon
5. the procedure is the same I explain above

hope can help; let me know!

Adios

Not that I know of. If you hover your mouse over the connection icon, tho,
you can see which is which - or go into the network properties for whichever
you want and tell it not to display an icon when connected.

I think I must have confused you.

I am talking about the two small icons you get in the 'System Tray' (bottom
right of the screen). I am not talking about changing an icon on the desk
top.

When I connect to the Internet I get one showing I am connected - it is a
picture of two computers and they screens go blue each time data is sent or
received. I get exactly the same icon when my home network is connected.
The problem is that I have to keep hovering over them to see which one is
which as they appear in different places, depending on whether the ISP or
the network is connected first.

I want to be able to change one of the icons to something different so I
know which is being referred to.

Thanks for your help

Noel
