Windows NT4/2000/XP/2003 only. A collective name for all operating
system kernel threads.
Recommendation: The Operating System !! Leave alone.
OR
System.exe
You have one of the Trojan.Download.Revird / Trojan.Mitglieder.C /
Backdoor.Tuxder viruses (or some other virus).
So: (1) do a thorough virus scan, in Safe Mode, with an up-to-date
anti-virus app and
(2) search your hard drive, including hidden and system files, for
system.exe
When you talk about "System" it could mean a lot of things. Usually the
entry that simply says "System" in task manager refers to all the different
processes that are running at any given moment in your Windows XP operating
system. To find out more about those processes you will have to use process
explorer
(http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sysinternals/utilities/ProcessExplorer.mspx)
as mentioned in a post before and see what it says under the entry System.
It could be a process in there that could be the culprit, which is causing
your system to run slowly.
