A game like this is a masterpiece; you must experience it firsthand. System Shock™ 2 arguably offers the most intense storytelling in the history of computer games. It perfectly splices Sci-Fi with survival horror, FPS gameplay with character stats, upgrades, and inventory system of the role-playing genre, fast paced action with chilling terror. As you slowly and carefully explore your surroundings, the game begins to swallow you whole, and soon enough you feel completely immersed in the terrifying reality of an interstellar ghost-ship. Then, even years after your first contact with the game, just hearing the words "System Shock™ 2" will make your heart race. This is going to be a hell of a journey, for a pathetic creature of meat and bone such as yourself.
An extra information

For those wondering why the name 1999 Mode was chosen, the answer would appear simple: back in 1999, Irrational Games worked with Looking Glass Studios to release a sequel to the latter's popular sci-fi epic System Shock. As with its predecessor, System Shock 2 featured an inventory with limited space, complex resource planning and research mechanics and weapon specialisation systems. It also featured some impressively punishing difficulty levels, although lacked the sliders from the original which allowed individual game elements - such as puzzle complexity and combat difficulty - to be adjusted independently.
:D

An the original System Shock is available here

System Shock is one of those games that need no introduction. It's these PC games that everyone should play. However, in case you havent played or *gasp* never heard of it, here's a rundown.

I stil have my original disk of SS2 which works fine in Win '98, haven't tried it in any other OS's.

I never did finish that game.

Before buying from GOG be aware of this thread Here

SS2 will probably work fine in later versions of Windows as they claim but it's worthwhile being aware of the problems I experienced.

Thanks for the info flops. Looks like I will not be buying the game at the moment if there is a question about it running properly on 7. I can not afford to throw away the money at the moment. Shame as it sounded like a good old game. :(

On a brighter note Steam for Linux is noe official and packages for other os's have been approved. An they are having a half price sale to celebrate. As I have been meaning to get Amnesia, the Penumbras and Postal for a while I took the opportunity to get them in the linux sale. Got Dynamite Jack 99p and The Book of Unwritten
Tales aswell. I hope they run as well as HL does on me Arch.:D
