In my system info it says i have windows nt but it came with xp home. And i
get an error message saying that some programs wont work with nt. is there a
virus or update that could have change it and would reinstalling xp fix it. I
already inserted the cd and it said I already had a newer version and
instalation was not recomended.
thnx kirk

Hi Kirk,

1. Click Start, and then click Run.
2. In the Open box, type winver and then click OK.
The Windows version number is displayed in the About Windows box, and
it will display any Service Packs installed.

You are most likely trying to install old program, that were created
way before XP was released. WinXP is based on NT so all the older
programs see it that and produce the error message you are seeing.

Yes, XP is version 5.1 of Windows NT. (my Pro install is 5.1.2600).
Windows 2000 is version 5.0.

Some programs will *not* work on NT versions, particularly those that want
to directly address hardware. These are fewer now, and they are mostly
older.

When do you see this message? If it is while the system is starting, what
do you have in the startup lists?
