system restore

I need to turn off the system restore to allow for virus
removal but access is denied by group policy. How do i
change this?

Open Registry Editor and navigate to:

HKEY LOCAL MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows NT\SystemRestore
(Backup the registry key using the File, Export option)

In the right-pane, delete the value "DisableConfig".

Close Registry Editor

Close and re-open the System Restore properties page.

For Windows XP Professional, you can accomplish this via Group Policy
Editor.

Sorry; should have indicated that this type of operation
is completely new to me! I have XP, tablet edition and
need more specific instructions as to how to make the
changes you have noted. thanks!

No idea about Tablet PC.
