Windows XP Pro, SP2.

I have used System Restore to restore to an earlier time. I was under the
impression that personal data files would not be deleted. However, I have
found that after a system restore, folders and files created AFTER the
restore point but BEFORE the system restore operation were deleted.

How can I prevent the deletion of files I want to keep?

That's not correct. System Restore didn't do this. If this was
your experience, look elsewhere than System Restore for the
source of your problem.

Where did you store these 'personal documents?' If they were in the My
Documents folder then System Restore didn't do this - if they were stored
elsewhere then they weren't protected.

I do not use My Documents folder. I use an entirely separate drive for my
data. I don't mean just a separate partition, but an entirely second hard
drive.

So how do I protect those files from deletion?

You can go to System Properties - System Restore Tab - uncheck any drive you
want to exclude from System Restore.

Thanks Ron.
