System Restore

Upon turning on my pc all my English language including desktop icons are in
a strange format with question marks and all sorts of odd shapes. I
previously solved the problem by using System Restore but this wont finish
and the problem remains. Can anybody help to sort out why the problem has
started and why System Restore will not finish its operation making my pc
completely unusable.

Hi,

There are several reasons this may occur. Let's take a look at Event
Viewer for any System Restore logs that may have been created recently
that may help us diagnosing the problem.

Go to Start - Run and type eventvwr.msc and press enter.
Click on System in the left pane.
Click the gray title "Source" at the top of the source name column in
the right pane to sort by source name, look for "sr" and "srservice".
Double click on each of these events, then click on the button below the
two arrows in the upper right corner. This will copy the event
information to the clipboard. Paste the information for each of the two
event here. There's no need to post duplicate Event ID's.

Tried that but my pc is inoperable as all I see are . crosses squares dots
dashes etc etc This is the problem in that any action cannot be taken as the
dots etc etc make reading any action necessary impossible - have you any idea
why I am getting this on my dispay and in all documents.

Have you tried running SR from Safe Mode or the Command Prompt, as
described at the bottom of the following page?

No change - will not restore and problem of gobbledegook regards language
seen remains. Any idea why this has occurred in the first place?

I have now managed to get some normality to my pc by putting in a SP2 disc
and getting a system restore but now the display is still not working
properly. Windows are mis-shapen, text under icons is very very small and on
the description of the windows English is still not being seen - only
triangles squares circles dots etc etc. I have tried to get another system
restore for early November but that now fails again.
