I have no system restore points other than today. How did this happen? My
computer started opening to the log in page where it used to open directly to
the desk top. I am trying to restore that.

thanks

John

Hi John,

There are several reasons this may occur. Let's take a look at Event
Viewer for any System Restore logs that may have been created recently
that may help us diagnosing the problem.

Go to Start - Run and type eventvwr.msc and press enter.
Click on System in the left pane.
Click the gray title "Source" at the top of the source name column in
the right pane to sort by source name, look for "sr" and "srservice".
Double click on each of these events, then click on the button below the
two arrows in the upper right corner. This will copy the event
information to the clipboard. Paste the information for each of the two
event here. There's no need to post duplicate Event ID's.

How do I use the Event Viewer to search for System Restore logs?

Hi Bert

Thanks for the response. I can't figure out how to work the clipboard. There
is one SR source - ERROR " The System Resore filter encounterd The unexpected
error 'OxC0000010' while processing the file 'Film Recorder' on the volume
"Hardisk Volume 4". It has stopped monitoring the volume.

There are several srservice items--mostly " A restoration to System
Checkpoint" restore point failed. No cahnge has been made to your computer'
and one
" A restoration to "Software Distribution Service 2.0" restore point
failed. No change etc. etc.

Is it possiblt to change how my computer opens up so I can switch it back to
opening on the desk top?

Thanks again

John

I've had the same problem. I have noticed my PC runnign slow over the last
week or so and lastnight i install a new game which was running slow
eventhough it probably shouldn't

I attemtped to System restore but it wouldn't, it kept failing. Now i have
no restore points all together. Now my computer takes about 5 times longer to
start (getting stuck on Pentium 4 screen).

A restoration to "System Checkpoint" restore point failed. No changes have
been made to the system.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at

Hi John,

Thanks for the error messages. It appears there are drives/partition
being monitored other than the one Windows is installed on. Stop System
Restore from monitoring all drives other than the one Windows is
installed on. System Restore should resume functioning.
