system restore

System Restore will no longer work. I've tried all the suggested fixes I
found online, everything from checking to make sure it's turned on (it is)
to looking to see if it's also turned on in the registry (it is) to shutting
it down, restarting my computer, turning it on, then restarting the computer
again. Nothing works. And yes, I ran/run Ad Aware, SpyBot and CounterSpy, so
I know I'm free of spyware/malware. I run McAfee, too, so I don't have any
viruses.

I found sys restore useful in the past and I'd like to know it's there,
should I need it. What can I do to get it operational?
