System Restore won't start

I tried to run system restore and it says, System Restore Application has
encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the
inconvenience. It also gives Me the option to send error report which I
have a few times. If I try to access it from the system properties window,
it says Run a DLL as an App has encountered a problem and needs to close,
also giving Me the option to send an error report. When I try to close
system properties it says, End program - rundll32.exe this program is not
responding. I click end now and it just sits there with an hourglass and
after a few minutes closes. I don't know when this problem started because
haven't checked system restore for a while. I am running XP Pro SP2 Retail.

It Worked! I had to use the CD. I have a folder called i386 but it
doesn't have sr.inf in it. Also some websites require a different language
to display characters correctly add it always asks for the CD rom. Is
there any way to copy the files to the Hard Disk so I don't have to go find
the CD every time? Thanks .

Hi,

Yes, drag the i386 folder from the Windows CD to the root of C:\ or a
location of your choice.

Go to Start – Run and type Regedit then press enter.

Navigate to the following registry key.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Setup

In the right pane double click on the SourcePath key and set the Value
Data to C:\i386 or the location you choose, then click OK.
Close Regedit and reboot the system.

This registry edit will tell Windows where to find the setup file when
they are needed, without having to browse.
