System Restore with XP Home

I am trying to setup SP1 on my XP Home machine, and while
archiving files, it always sticks on one file and will not
continue. I'm pretty sure that I could complete the
upgrade if I did not archive the files, but that leaves me
with a question:

If I do not archive the files when upgrading to SP1, can
the System Restore get my computer back to pre-SP1 in case
of a problem? Is there any chance that SP1 will void my
previous restore points?

I wanted to learn a little before trying again. Thanks
for any help on this one.
 
Forget system restore with SP1,xp wont get far w/o it,
just let it run.Why archive those files.
