System Restore Tab missing

I found that none of my restore points were working, so following advice
posted here many times before, I turned SR off but can't turn it back on
again. I get the message "System Restore is not able to protect your
computer. Please restart your computer and run System Restore again"

Problem is I can't, and the SR tab in My Computer/Properties is missing.
I've turned it off and on again a few times before with no problems. Any help
with this would be greatly appreciated.

Hi there,

Try these steps:

Go to Start > Run and type: MSCONFIG , and hit enter.
Under the General tab, check "Normal Startup - load all device drivers and
services",
click "apply" and reboot.

Rstrui.exe is what loads your Restore points . Read this & see if you have
it set up correctly .

1. In My Computer, click the Tools menu -> Folder Options.
2. On the View tab, make sure to check the option "Hide extensions for known
file types".
3. Click OK.
4. Click the Start menu -> Run. Type: " %windir%\inf " (Without quotation
marks) in the Open field. Click OK.
5. Locate and select the file " sr.inf ". Right-click it and then click
Install.

A Guid New Year!

Thanks, eventually got SR tab to appear again and created new restore point.
It won't restore to that point though. So I created another...no joy, it
still refuses to restore. Why won't it work?

Now then, back to the party! Where'd I leave that drink? Happy Holidays!
