System Restore settings - how??

My System Restore, which used to create restore points
automatically, now won't create ANY, unless I do it myself
manually. I opened it a few days ago and there were NO
restore points. I turned if Off, then back On again, and
manually created a couple of restore points a few hours
apart - they are still there, two days later. But, it
won't create anything new automatically. I checked the
Administrative Tools>Services tab and it is supposedly
running - "Automatic", "Local System" - I can't find any
other area to make it run on its own. The My
Computer>System Restore properties tab has the space
alloted at MAX (12%). I can't find anyplace to enter a
time it should create a restore, or anything like that.
I've looked all over the web, but everything they say is
what it looks like it's already doing - - what am I
missing? THANK YOU!

In general, navigate to the system restore tab
(right click my computer/properties/system restore)
Put a check mark in "turn SR off for all drives"
OK out, and reboot.
Reenter the above dialog and reenable it for the drives
you wish. OK out and reboot. Renter it again, and
set the SR harddrive space for your drive(s).
It should now be working, and an automatic checkpoint
should have been done. If not look in the event viewer
for clues.

you describe that says "turn SR off for all drives". My
box says "Turn Off System Restore" (THAT'S ALL IT SAYS) -
and there is a slider to allot drive space for System
Restore. Then it shows a little drive icon underneath
that says "C: Monitoring", with no boxes to check or
uncheck. I have a D Drive for CD/DVD and an E Drive for
CD Burning, and they are not mentioned, as there's nothing
there to restore I guess. Yesterday I turned it
off/rebooted/turned on/rebooted/created restore
point/rebooted ...it hasn't done anything on its own for
over 24 hours, although my self-created restore points are
still there. Well I appreciate your help in any case, I
know it's real hard to assist in this way!!

I have a number of logical drives, perhaps that's why mine
look different. Also, Im using XP pro. even if the cosmetics are
slightly differenct, it sounds as if the funcionality is the same.

If you turned it off and back on, all of your manually created
points should have disappreared.

You didn't mention whether you actually looked in the even viewer.
It's a good place to go for further clues, because it contains
greater details about erros that are logged.
eventvwr.msc from the RUN box.

I turned the System Restore OFF/ON before I created the
restore points manually. Then created the two restore
points that I still have now. Yes I did look in the Event
Log but don't see Errors about System Restore.
