system restore problems

Hello: I'm having problems with my system restore function. It will not
open. If I try to run it again, I get a blank white windor with "System
Restore" on the blue bar at the top of the window and nothing happens. If I
look at what services are running, the window says that the system restore
service is running.

I've tried turning the restore service on and off in the administrative tool
(under control panel) and that hasn't helped. I also re-installed the system
restore tool by installing the "sr.nfo" file again and that didn't work.

Can anyone help please?

Hi

The file to reinstall System Restore from is 'sr.inf' - which can be found
in the windows\inf folder.

Hi Will:

I actually reinstalled the file you mentioned. It did ask me for my XP
install CD which I didn't have handy. There was a copy of the file it was
looking for SR.sys on my c: drive and it finished the install. That did not
help. Any other ideas?

Frank,

See if these commands help. From Start/Run:

regsvr32 jscript
regsvr32 vbscript
regsvr32 /i mshtml

Hi Ramesh:

I tried doing the malware and virus scans that Kelly suggested and not luck.
I then tried the the scripts you mentioned in your reply and each one of
them reported back that it was completed successfully. Do I need to restart
the machine or something? I tried running the restore and it's still a
completely blank screen.

Thanks,

Frank

Frank,

Have you registered the MSHTML.DLL exactly as I said (with the "/i" parameter?)

Open Regedit and export this key:

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.htc]

Post the contents here.

Besides that, do you have Norton AV / NIS installed?

Excuse me butting into this thread but I slso have a 'System Restore'
problem that I hope you may help me with.
I posted this message about a week ago but did not receive a reply.

"Recently System Restore is making and retaining only one Restore Point,
i.e.
FIFO. The space allocated to SR on all drives is the default (12%) and the
actual space available on each drive/partition exceeds 1.84GB.

Examining the 'Event Viewer' I get the message "The System Restore service
has been suspended because there is not enough disk space available on the
drive \\?\Volume {92c3ffeb-)d3d-11d9-9650-806d6172696f}\. System Restore
will automatically resume service once at least 200 MB of free space is
available on the system drive." If the 'system drive' is the drive on which
WINXP is loaded i.e. C drive, there is over 10GB free on that drive.

I have already unenabled and re-enabled System Restore as well as reloading
the utility (restore SR.inf) without success. I have scanned the system for
viruses (NOD32 and KAV) and for malware (Ad-Aware, Spybot, CWS Shredder and
Panda on-line scanner) without solving the problem.

Needless to say I am mystified and will be grateful for some guidance on how
to proceed to get System Restore to retain more than the last Restore
Point."

I addition to the above I have disabled System Restore on all
drives/partitions except the "C" but without
solving the problem. What is particularly puzzling is that in any day I can
make several Restore Points but when the machine
automatically makes a new Restore Point, all other Points are deleted and
the event viewer message denotes insufficient space.

Any advice will be appreciated.

Ramesh...

Sorry for the long delay on answering. I copied and pasted your script in
the the Run window and the computer responded that it was installed properly.
I completed all of the anti-virus/mal-ware scan and still have no luck.

Any other suggestions?
