System Restore Point

I am using Windows XP Pro and after each program that I installed, I set a
restore point. Problem is, when I try to use the utility to go back to one
of those restore points, I get a message that Windows was unable to restore
to that point. I tried going to several restore points before that and got
the same message. Any ideas on how to fix this?

Restore Points form a data chain. If any point in the chain is broken
or unusable then every point from that date/time backward is not
going to work. System Restore is a short-term Roll back feature &
after a maximum of 2 weeks isn't reliable. It is more of a Undo or
correct an "Oh Damn" type situation that any real recovery tool. It
would be better to use Imaging ( True Image, Ghost ) and perform
full images on a fixed schedule. Once points are corrupted, you'll
need to turn SR off, Reboot and re-enable - Also consider lowering
the disk reservation level to something more realistic than 12% of
the total partition.

Right Click My Computer, Left Click Properties - when the System
Properties box opens click System Restore (TAB). Place a check
in the option box "Turn off System Restore on all Drives", Apply &
OK. This will dump the contents of the System Volume Information
folder on each drive. Reboot and then re-enable. While changing the
setting click the Settings button to modify the disk reservation value.

XP has a good help feature. Take a look at it and try it out. Start |
Help and Support. Type in System Restore in the search box. Click the
arrow.
