Hi,

Does anyone know where i can find system restore point files for the
registery (i.e. software, sam, security, default, system)

I looked in the folder System Volume Information... but there is nothing
there except one text file.

Does windows 2000 automatically do do system backup files? (ie for use in
system restore)

Thanks

Windows 2000 does not have the same type of system restore feature found in
Windows XP nor does it automatically backup any registry files.

You can install a 3rd party utility that can backup your registry. This utility
can be used with the Task Scheduler. I have mine setup to do a daily backup
(never had to use it..but it gives one a warm feeling just having it available).

Download this utility from here:

The latest backup of the registry would be found in the
%systemroot%\repair\regback directory. The latest backup in there would
be one that you would have created with the Emergency Repair Disk option
in the Backup utility. A good alternative is Erunt as Snarky suggested.
