After fail to uninstall the Iomega Active Disk, I deleted
it manually. Then the computer could not start in any mode.

Managed to repair the system with Original vender supplied
XP Pro, the system restore could not start.

The error message as following "The procedure entry point
RemoteAssistancePrepareSystemRestore could not be located
in the dynamic link library WINSTA.dll"

check all the privillage and setting is OK.

Any one could advise will be very much appreciated.

Do a search for the sr.inf file which is normally located in C:\windows.
Make sure you search hidden files in your search criteria.
Right-click on the sr.inf file and select the install option.

Restore is not reliable. It's a marketing gimmick for MS.
You can turn it off from Control Panel > System > and then
re-boot and it will purge it's file. Then re-boot, turn it
back on.
You still have to deal the problem, it's a crap program,
that half works, half the time.

Do a real backup and get Erunt for your registry. It puts
a folder on your root dir with a installer.

System Restore In MS's own words .......lol

"The System Restore feature of Windows XP enables you to
restore a PC, in the event of a problem, to a previous
state without losing personal data files. System Restore
actively monitors system file changes to record or store
previous versions before the changes occurred. With System
Restore, you never have to think about taking system
snapshots as it automatically creates easily identifiable
restore points, which allow you to restore the system to a
previous point in time."

"you never have to think about taking system snapshots"
Oh, really.

Hi Willit

Can you please substantiate your last posting? 'Restore is not reliable' - you may very well be worrying people as to whether they should use SR or not. IMHO, SR should be used in conjunction with ERunt. Using SR by itself is not a problem - I wonder why you think so.

Neither is a proper backup program - XP has a built in one.

Could you perhaps post your grievances with SR?

System Restore is not a cure for all problems, and is certainly
not a substitute for a backup. But it is far more than "a
marketing Gimmick for MS." It is a very useful feature, one that
has gotten me and many others out of trouble many times.

System Restore has always been reliable for me when I have used it.
You can only speak for yourself, and if you can't even get restore to work
you might want to read up some.
System Restore is not designed nor intended as a back up program. Again, do
some research.
How is it a marketing gimmick?? It is a tool, just like defrag, chkdsk, disc
cleanup, etc.
And one that obviously works well for many.
