System restore not working. Help please?!

Hi could somebody help me please. I jhave a HP desktop comp with Windows xp
mediacenter edition with service pack 2. For some reason my system restore
does not work. When I choose a restore point and click restore it seems to
be doing what ever it is spposed to, restarts and when I log on after few
moments an error message appears saying"System restore incomplete". Not able
to restore. To choose another restore point click Home or click OK".

I tried nearly more than a dozen points and none of them seem to work. I am
not sure if it is coincidental or related but my wireless multimedia key
board started playing upas well. In the contol pannel - printrs and other
hard ware - key board - the "Buttons" tab is missing. It used to be there
and I have customised the buttons in the past. I have uninstalled, reloaded
the driver and even got the updated driver from HP site ( Computer model -
m7091.uk). When I try to load the updatd keyboard driver I am getting an
error message saying "cant create outputfile C:\Temp\KbdSw\img\thumbs.db"

Both these problems seem to have started simultaneously. I would greatly
appreciate any help.
