System restore not restoring to a restore point

P

PattiWagen

I was installing an older version of Roxio easy media creator (7.5) and it
did not work properly. I uninsalled it and tried to restore my computer to
an earlier time. I got the message "restoring files" and after the files
were restored, it shut down. When it restarted, it came up with the message
"cannot be restored to ... No changes were made." I tried over and over
with different restore points with the same result. Then I created a
restore point, installed and removed software, and tried to restore to the
restore point I already created. I got the same result.

I think the restores did things, because when I shut down the computer,
there were 16 microsoft updates to install.

Any help with how to fix system restore would be appreciated.

Hi,

When a restore completes you will see a "Restoration Complete" dialog box.

There will also be a restore point created, viewable in the System Restore
calendar by the name of "Restoration operation".

There's a good chance of restore point corruption. Turning System Restore off
then on again will purges all existing restore points, and creates one new one.

There are also other possibilities that can cause this to happen. The following
pages have some troubleshooting steps to take.
