System Restore not functioning properly

Hi, I am unable to successfully RESTORE a previous stored
point from WindowsXp Pro so I turned off Restore,
rebooted my system and then turned Restore back on and
rebooted again. And to test matters, I Restored the point
(the "image") successfully, so I thought that I was OK.
A short time ago (which is a couple of days later), I
tried to Restore a Restore point and after the system
restarted, I was advised that the Restore was
unsuccessful. I tried a few more restore points and
again was advised that the Restore was unsuccessful. So
as a last resort, I tried to restore the initial Restore
point (that I created and Restored successfully
a few days ago) and was advised that the Restrore was
unsuccessful. I am very concerned since I thought that
this Restrore point was good and it now looks like I do
not have a safety net to rely on. Thank you for your
help, Bob

Restore is not reliable. It's a marketing gimmick for MS.

1. Put the in the Windows XP CD
2. Click Start , Run
3. Type the following then OK

rundll32.exe advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection
C:\Windows\Inf\sr.inf

You can also open Windows Explorer, go to
C:\Windows\Inf folder and right-click sr.inf (Then Install)

You still have to deal the problem, it's a crap program,
that half works, half the time. It's like a parachute,
will it open if you need it ?? Maybe !!! It is not
isolated from any viruses and must be purged to keep from
a re-infection. If you use it, fine, Have I, yes !!! But I
learned the hard way about it's reliability, it can't be
trusted !! It's too easy to use NTBack-up to back up your
system state, but not to a cd, cause that's another issue.
Save it to a folder then burn it. Oh, I forgot you may
have to install NTBackup since MS decided you did not need
it in XP Home, that 75% of users have. Oh, you have a OEM
and you don't have NTBackup.

Get it here :
http://www.onecomputerguy.com/software/ntbackup.msi

Do a real backup and get Erunt for your registry. It puts
a folder on your root dir with a installer.

If you're a true MS believer, Keep drinking the purple
Kool-ade, the Halle-Bop Comet is returning, they have room
for you !!

System Restore :: In MS's own words .......lol

"The System Restore feature of Windows XP enables you to
restore a PC, in the event of a problem, to a previous
state without losing personal data files. System Restore
actively monitors system file changes to record or store
previous versions before the changes occurred. With System
Restore, you never have to think about taking system
snapshots as it automatically creates easily identifiable
restore points, which allow you to restore the system to a
previous point in time."

"without losing personal data files". What does SR have
to do with personal data files ??

"you never have to think about taking system snapshots"
Oh, really.

Hi Willit, no I am not a true MS believer, I just want to
get a reliable / managable system. BTW, I have a (new)
Dell system with WindowsXp Pro. FYI, I also have
PowerQuest Drive Image so I assume that is the way to go
to Backup (create an Image). I am not familar with Erunt
but I will check it out. Thank you again for your help,
Bob
