I want to creat a restore point. Dialog says it is unable to create and I
should restart computer and try again. I did and the same happens. I now
see that check points were being created regularly through October but there
is not a single one in November. I guess it's my fault - nearly everything
is - but what do I do now?

Open Start, Run type without quotes 'cmd' and press OK. Type the following command and then press Enter:

net start srservice

If no error message, try to open System Restore again.

Hi,

Take a look at Event Viewer for any System Restore logs that may have
been created recently that may help us diagnosing the problem.

Go to Start - Run and type eventvwr.msc and press enter.
Click on System in the left pane.
Click the gray title "Source" at the top of the source name column in
the right pane to sort by source name, look for "sr" and "srservice".
Double click on each of these events, then click on the button below the
two arrows in the upper right corner. This will copy the event
information to the clipboard. Paste the information for each of the two
event here. There's no need to post duplicate Event ID's.

How do I use the Event Viewer to search for System Restore logs?

Here are some more links for troubleshooting System Restore.

There is only one entry. I reads

Event Type: Information
Event Source: SRService
Event Category: None
Event ID: 110
Date: 07/10/2005
Time: 15:15:41
User: N/A
Computer: PAULS
Description:
A restoration to "System Checkpoint" restore point occurred successfully.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at

:

Right click My Computer/Properties/System Restore tab.

Alias

I don't want to be difficult but there are 15 restore points since 7 Oct!
(and, yes, I have looked again to check that there is only the one sr report
and can confirm that is so)

I have now worked through http://bertk.mvps.org/html/srauto.html right to
the bottom but am frightened by the last option of repairing. So I'm stuck?
I even reinstalled pack 2 and that claimed to be registering a restore point
- but it didn't. (actually I reinstalled that because at some stabge the
system was looking for sr.sys which it said was on the service pack 2 - but
it didn't find it there)

windows/inf/sr.ing right click install
comes up with box 'Files needed' saying 'the file 'sr.sys' on Windows XP
Home Edition Service Pack 2cd is needed.
Type the path where the file is located, and then click OK.'

I have Windows sp service pack 2 with advanced security technologies but
cannot find any folder on it which which contains sr.sys.

In case it would help I reinstalled the whole of the service pack. It
didn't!

What am I to use autostreamer for? Sorry if that is a dim question. Also I
do have a ced of XP Home ed but the software on my computer was preloaded
and is not from my cd. Will that still work?
