System Restore, Media Player, Connection Problem

This is a mess of problems but I believe that they are interrelated. First of
all, my internet connection came up with the Server execution failed and
shows in the taskbar that the internet is not connected. I tried opening
network connects to diagnose and repair and it won't do anything. Then, I
simply tried opening a movie to watch with WMP11 and it says that I don't
have access or the proxy settings are not correct. No audio or video will
open with WMP or with a few other programs saying the same thing. Before
this I was having a problem with iTunes and uninstalled it and everything was
fine. So, I figured that I would do system restore. It system restored and
nothing changed. Still the same problems. I tried system restoring again to a
later date and system restore would not work. So here I am, without music,
video or the ability to view my network connections with no option to
restore. Does anyone have any clue what to do besides reformat my computer
and install XP until the Vista service pack comes out?

I am running a HP Pavillion dv6000, windows Vista Home Premium, 2 GB ram.
Anything else you need to know please let me know. Thank you

What about your connection to the internet. Is it just the internet explorer
and such that is down? Can you access anything else online (instant
messaging, file downloads, etc.) If not, it might be your actual network
connect. Open the command prompt and type "IPCONFIG /ALL". What does it say
when you type that?

I can access everything still online. I can download, I use maxthon and that
opens and can search. But I cannot view my network connections, and I believe
that is linked to the problem with windows media player and the fact that I
cannot system restore. But as far as the IPCONFIG, all of that is up and
working.

Thats weird that it is so supradic like that. Since your System Restore
points aren't working it could be a recently installed program that filters
like norton or mcafee, but I would try either updating your network driver or
using a default provided driver from microsoft. Are you installing all
updates from Microsoft that are critical? In Control Panel, open Problem
Reports and Solutions, and View problem history. Is there any programs
installed or updates around the time the errors first appeared?

I installed iTunes, and it froze everything up, so I uninstalled it. And
there have been no other programs that I have installed recently. Do you
think it could be a problem in the registry somewhere? A possible problem
from registry clean up or anything like that? I'm at the point where I'm
about to install XP and wait for the service pack to come out or something.
