Before I install SP2 on my HP pavilion 750c, Hewlett Packard recommends to
download the HP update SP26352 wich I did. There is a cross-reference to the
Microsoft update KB835409 (System Restore Point update). Now when I search
Microsoft.com for KB835409 I get the message: "Sorry, no results were found."
What gives??? I want to make sure that I wont lose my restore points AGAIN!
Is HP giving me the wrong KBxxxx number or am I getting bad info from
Microsoft? Please advise.
Thanks, Fred

the title is "You cannot restore Windows XP SP2 after you restore Windows XP
SP1"

Symptoms Section
You cannot restore a Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2 System Restore
point after you restore a Windows XP Service Pack 1 System Restore point. The
operating system on the computer will still be Windows XP Service Pack 1.

it is a hotfix avalable from MSFT.
if you dont have the symptom you don't need the HOTFIX.

but if you can download it from HP, you don't need to contact MSFT.

KB835409 is no longer available.

What is the version number on the two following files (right click,
Properties, select the Version tab):

%windir%\ServicePackFiles\i386\atapi.sys
%windir%\System32\Drivers\atapi.sys

(%windir% is typically C:\Windows)

They should both be version 5.1.2600.2180

If you have the correct versions, continue with installing SP2.

As pointed out, HP has a series of patches/updates to be installed prior
to SP2. They have all the files available for download on their site so
you don't have to go searching for them, and they have them separated
by Desktop and Notebook. Under the Desktop section, they have further
delineated the patches that are only for Windows Media Center. It's
quite clear. Go back to the HP page and read it again, download the 4
or 5 files for your machine, and install them. Make sure you do all the
proper preparation before installing SP2 in addition to HP's patches.
