system restore issue

hello ... i hope i could help in my issue i am not able to make a system
restore i get this msg >>>>system restore is not able to protect yr computer,
please restart yr computer and then run system restore<<<< i do restart and
still no use ?

and i have noticed that in the administrative tools>>>services >>> the
system restore service is not listed there ....i have the system event
notification and the task scheduler listed there but NOT the system restore
service and even when i go the event viewer i dont see the srservice listed
there ???

also i have noticed since i have two computers running on window xp
i had a look in the registry i found on the registry of the problematic
computer a key missing the registry under

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM

subdirectory:Root


so please any idea as to what to do or any help thank you .

i followed instructions step by step as in reinstalling system restore but
when i reach the step of finding the sr.inf file to instal i get a dialouge
box saying the file sr.sys on window xp service pack 2 cd is needed so i
browse again and locate this file in c/window/servicepacks i386>> click ok
and then another dialouge box appears saying >>)Setup cannot copy the file
srclient.dll. Ensure that the location specified below is correct, or change
it and insert window xp pro service pack 2cd in the drive you specify)
so here i get stuck by this copy error any help as to what to do please ???

Try browsing to C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32
See: "These are the files required to perform the reinstall" on the link I
gave. The last table.

the
sr.sys is in the c/windows/servicepackfiles/i386
sr.sys is in the c/windows/system32/drivers
sr.sys is in c/windows/lastgood/system32/DRIVERS

now as for the srclient.dll.... where i reach and i get this msg (Setup
cannot copy the file srclient.dll. Ensure that the location specified below
is correct, or change
it and insert window xp pro service pack 2cd in the drive you specify)
they are also in the

c/windows/system32
c/windows/lastgood/system32
c/windows/servicepackfiles/i386

again that is where iam stuck????

Do you mean the files are there but you get the error message?

When files are needed browse to the folder (File Location) and the needed
file should appear on the file list, click on the file then click open then
OK. Please refer to the table "These are the files required to perform the
reinstall" to see their location - http://bertk.mvps.org/html/reinstall.html
.. If some dll files are not available you can try downloading at
http://www.dll-files.com/.

yes rey the files are there and i do get the error msg still this error

Maybe the procedure mentioned here to show the hidden files is causing the
problem the reason why you are getting the error.
