I read many of the posts here, and tried to shut off my sys restore as is suggested, but when I do, I get a "run.dll" error and it just gives the option to close. I recently put in a new hard drive because I was getting msgs that the smart was bad on my original one. I used Maxtors program in windows mode to copy my C drive to the new one. All seemed fine the first day but again I am getting bsod with memory dumps but no driver mentioned. Now I find I cannot set my system restore because it refuses to open. I tried rebooting and nothing helps. Do I have to re install winxp (pro) and if so will I lose all my files and emails? If not what would be the next step? Thanks in advance

Hi Robbi,

Is your system clean? If so, go to Start/Run/CMD and type in: SFC /Scannow

If not, run all of these, now:

Ad-Aware

Spybot

CWShredder (Line 313)

Hijack This

Free Online Virus Scan

More information:

1. Insert the Windows XP CD
2. Click Start/Run and type:
"rundll32.exe advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection C:\Windows\Inf\sr.inf"

System Restore core files should be reinstalled.

Alternately, you may also open Windows Explorer, navigate to
"C:\Windows\Inf" folder and right-click sr.inf (choose Install)
