System Restore Corruption?

Hi

I have a PC with XPProSP2 installed.

Every time I try to create a new system check point it complains that there
was a 'failed undo' and I should try again.

Well, I've done that, several times, without success so I thought I'd try
switching off system restore so that it deleted everything and then start
over.

Hmm? Now I still get the original error complaining about a failed undo,
but now I can't switch system restore back on. I can tick the box, but the
settings button is greyed out and the status for both drives (C: and D:)
says OFF.

Is there any way to get things back to 'normal'? I'm guessing that there
must be a corrupted file somewhere, and maybe a confused registry entry?

All suggestions gratefully received.

Try reinstalling System Restore. This can be accomplished by typing
"c:\windows\inf" in the run dialog box then locating the "sr.inf" file and
right-click to select "Install". When prompted for your XP CD, either point
to the "c:\windows\servicepackfiles\i386" folder, if present, or insert your
XP CD.
