System Restore. beta Vista 5472

I run Vista 5472 and XP pro on a dual boot basis. When I boot into XP after
Vista I find that on return to Vista my sytem restore points have been
wiped. Anyone had a similar experience and preferably a solution please.

Yes, this is a known and discussed issue. Search the various Vista
newsgroups for "volsnap.sys" for a great explanation by Colin, and a couple
of possible solutions.

This is a known issue and has been going on for quite a number of builds. In
fact i've never had a build where system restore has worked!

Hi there,

I just noticed the same on my system (x64 Prof/Vista RC1 x64), and
unfortunately have no answer yet but I can tell you what does NOT help:

Turning 'System Restore' off (from within XP) does NOT prevent the 'Restore
Points' from being destroyed.

I am, btw, running on a RAID (SII3114) system.

We have a blog post for this at
https://blogs.technet.com/filecab/archive/2006/07/14/441829.aspx. This blog
is maintained by the team who owns System Restore, so consider it a reliable
source.

We've heard reports that using Bitlocker on your Vista volume is one way to
work around this. Essentially the XP install can't see the Vista volume, so
your restore points are protected. There are drawbacks, however, such as
performance impact. We'll be working on a blog post for this soon.
