Several weeks ago I posted a question about hungapps,
someone suggested I disable my PCcillin web trap
application and that helped, an mvp on this board
suggested disabling third party browser extensions in
I.E.6 internet options, that eliminated most of the
errors, we're down to two or six a day, now. I compared
my hijackthis logs with and without third party enabled
and only found one difference, an updater I have since
disabled in startup. I also disabled six other
unnecessary items in startup.
I did a system restore, no help. This computer is only
six weeks old. Should I restore to the second day? Will I
lose all of the programs and downloads installed since
then? How can I figure out which app is the cause so I
don't re-install it? Where can I read about the
consequences (effects) of a system restore (onboard XP
help doesn't give much info)?
I use spybot, hijack this, PCcillin, and ad-aware. I just
downloaded stinger, in order to use it I have to turn off
system restore so it can scan backed-up files there. When
I attempted to do this I got the message that all restore
points will be deleted, I don't know if stinger would be
worth it to lose my restore points.
Most of the hungapp errors don't list the application, or
have any info other than those two inaccessable temp
files to send to microsoft.
I checked the error event ID codes and they are all 1000,
1001, & 1002. General, no specific help troubleshooting.
Every time I turn on third party browser extensions it
seems to be much worse, is there a downside to turning
them off?
Also, I am administrator, I understand it is not wise to
surf the net as admin. what are the consequences? How can
I copy all of my customizations and folders into a new
power user account for my use? Or should I create a new
administrator and change my status to power user? Is
there any way to clone the settings and folders? Maybe I
didn't use the right keyword, but I couldn't find
anything in XP help or the KB regarding this.
Thank you for reading this looong post.
