System Restore Access Denied

Dear All

I turned off system restore (temporarily), to remove old files before a disk
defragmentation session. Afterwards I was not able to turn it back on, but
windows asked me to do a restart and try activating it (sys restore) again
afterwards. After the restart, the Restor tab of system properties was no
longer there(!). I then tried to start the system restore service manually
(from the services managment window), but got the message that it failed
because of access denied. I have an updated virus scanner, which tells me
the system is clean.

I would really like to turn on System Restore!

Any clues?

PS: The permissions on my system disk might have become messed up for some
reason. When I logged on to the Administrator account, I was denied access
to the Program Files folder (!). Could this have the same reason as my
restore problem?

Hi

Did you directly access the SR folder itself and delete anything from there?
Are the options via My Computer>Properties>System Restore greyed out?

If you still can't access Programs Files - try here:

"How to take ownership of a file or folder in Windows XP"
