system process 99%

system process is running at 99% after fresh install.
process explorer shows no attatched services / processes using cpu running
under system.

already searched other forums for help, but there is no nortons / pc cillin
/ mcafees on the pc - fresh build so no viruses / spyware / etc either.

any idea what is wrong?

pc is HP pavillion t740a wth xpsp2 p4 3G 512mb ram 120g sata

off hand I'd say the 512 of RAM with the onboard video eating some of that
....what remains is almost enough to run ME

thats a bad guess...
32mb is shared out for the vga plus the 768 - 1024 page file is more than
enough.
its not a games machine.

Are you connected to the internet? if so it takes 2.3 seconds to be infected
with a virus even without going to any website or using e/mail.
(fresh install or not)

problem sorted:
faulty intel usb host controller - cannot disable in bios and system freezes
when disabling in device manager.

solution : replace motherboard
