System Lockup

I have installed XP on my computer. I have downloaded
all the critical updates and all but a few of the
optional updates. The updates took forever! After
installing the first few, (I'm not sure which ones) the
computer began to lock up randomly. Since then continues
to lock up at random time. No specific application or
event. I've looked through the knowledge base and
couldn't find anything that would point me where to
begin. Any recommendations?

Random lockups are usually indicative of hardware, not software,
problems. I'm not saying it *isn't* software, but the first place I'd
start troubleshooting is with your RAM.
