System hive file corruption - System config file

I am aware of how to fix this problem when it occurs, but I was wondering if
any initiative had been taken to prevent it. Possibly in the form of a
shutdown integrity utility or a boot utility. If anyone knows of anything, I
am despoerate to prevent this from happening on my machines.

Not sure what it is you are hoping to prevent. The best I can tell is that when a system is not shut down in the proper way you get a "System hive file corruption" after you reboot? Is that right?

That really should not happen. Sometimes when my system is not behaving properly I'll reach over and hit the OFF button. This method is actually a way to prohibit configuration changes from propagating to the registry that normally would occur in a procedurally sound shutdown and restart.

If you recall from Windows NT 4 days, when you shut down you would get a message that information is being saved. The idea for a cold shutdown was to stop that from happening. This still happens to a certain extant in Windows 2000.

It may be just a hard disk issue. Mine is just your everyday IDE.
