Windows XP pro, service pack 1
CAUSE:
An installation of Turbo Tax 2004 froze the system; subsequently, user
prematurely shut off power by manually depressing power switch for five
seconds.
ISSUE:
Subsequent to Windows XP pro normal boot up, screen is blank with the
exception of desktop background (Bliss).
Icons, Start menu, etc. are no longer visible nor accessible on desktop.
Ctrl,Alt,Del ineffective. Unable to use programs.
Mouse moves, but mouse buttons are ineffective. Right click on desktop to
no avail.
SYMPTOMS:
Program not responding:
dllhost.exe
The application failed to initialize properly:
taskmng.exe (0XC0000142)
Boot to safe mode hangs at the following prompt for a few minutes before
continuing to safe mode screen:
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS\System32\DRIVERS\ALIAGP.sys
Boots to Safe Mode with the following banner:
(Build 2600.xpsp2.030422-1633:service pack 1)
ASSUMPTION:
A program is consuming 100% CPU when loading settings upon power up.
ANY ASSISTANCE WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED. THANKS IN ADVANCE.
