I am running XP Home with SP2.In the last 4 weeks my system has decided that
it doesn't want to do as its told.Firstly Internet Explorer takes nearly 5
minutes to bring up the browser page when i click on the IE button.

Secondly the mouse schemes that allow you to change the pointer to the
animated pointer has dissappeared and gives an error message when i try to
change the mouse scheme.

Thirdly the games that come with XP (spider sloitaire, hearts etc etc etc)
have gone missing, it says that the folder is empty.

And lastly during the boot up stage, it wants to connect to the internet all
the time. The dial up window appears and i have to press the cancel button
over 10 times to stop it and make it go away.

Now i haven't installed anything in the last 3 months or changed anything
for that matter.

Can anyone help or have any ideas.

Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safe in
a
nice and well-preserved body,BUT rather to skid in sideways, totally
used,worn
out and loudly yelling."HELL YEAH WHAT A TRIP"

Run spybot and do a complete virus check - all from safe mode! - then you
will need to repair xp by the sounds of it.

Ok.

I have run spybot and adaware and it turned up nothing as i have them
scheduled daily anyway.

So i guess the obvious question is, how do i format my system and how do
re-install windows.

I can do it with 98 but XP is different......

cheers

Have your tried to repair XP?

J,

No mate i haven't. I wouldn't know the first thing about XP, i know nothing
about Repair and stuff like that......

S..

1. Get hold of a copy of SP2.
2. Change your BIOS to first boot device CD (instead of floppy).
3. Reboot & run your XP CD, choose repair/reinstall, reboot again when
finished, run SP2, then finally download the latest Critical updates.
4. Change your BIOS back to first boot device - (Floppy).
