Hey guys!

My Windows XP crashed and I get a message "Missing or
corrupted System file"

I have try the recovery console. I have also try booting
up in safe mode or pick previous working configuration
without success.

Any ideas on how to fix it or get a new system file which
will allow to boot up.

Many many desperate thanks

George

If the error indicates the a file named "system" is missing, then the
following may prove helpful...

Try a boot into Safe Mode, by hitting F8 just before the "Starting
Windows" screen would appear (takes a bit of practice).
Choose LAST GOOD.

If that isn't applicable, use a working PC to read these sites...

How to Recover from a Corrupted Registry
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;q307545
describes a three-step process to extract a copy of the registry
from the System Restore SVI folder.

After your system is restored, the ERUNT utility available here may
make it easier to fix the problem if it recurs...

If the problem persists, try swapping current RAM (even if it checks
good) for a single, high-quality 512Mb chip. XP reportedly is sensitive
to memory timing.

If the message is in regards to windows\system32\config\system, this is what
you need to do:

Boot the machine into recovery console and type the following commands:

cd system32\config
ren system system.old
systemroot
cd repair
copy system c:\windows\system32\config
exit

This might reboot the machine for you. If it does then try to use a copy of
a system hive from backup if you have one.
