It is most likely a hardware failure, like External USB storage, CD/DVD,
your Computer Overheated, HDD need to be checked, Printer Driver
corrupted/damaged, Video Card, Sound Card..etc..

If yes, you may not have the latest Video drivers and you just downloaded
the drivers from MS updates, which not recommended to do so. So, try and get

The 1st response is totally wrong,+ youre not running windows server..
Try opening event viewer, locate the error/warning,once opened, click on the
R.upper button, this gets the explanation to clipboard with more
details.And/or
click on the url, this opens kb help/support in xp,usually with a fix.

A handy link to keep on hand is
http://www.eventid.net

You can look up events here and garner quite a few clues about what may be
going on with your system. While this can be indicative of bad hardware, it
can also mean a bad /inappropriate driver.

Here's a link to possible causes of your problem at the above website:
http://www.eventid.net/display.asp?eventid=1003&eventno=1274&source=System&phase=1

Also, since Windows is restarting right away - it's very likely that it is
producing a blue screen (system error) and is configured to restart "on
error." You can reconfigure Windows to *not* do that. doing this doesn't
get rid of the problem but it will cause Windows to produce a stop error
(error message on a blue screen).

That stop message can provide more information about where the problem is
at. If you're lucky, it will name the driver in question (if this is a
driver problem after all).

After making that change, you'll probably have Windows "stuck" on the blue
screen instead of restarting. You can use Ctl/Alt/Del to force or restart
-OR- booting to safe mode and re-enable the restart on error setting.

You'll find this setting under System Properties> Advanced> System Startup
and Recovery.
