System Configuration Utility and Msmsgs

When I run msconfig and select the startup tab there is a check mark in
the msmsgs box. In fact there are two entries with the same
information. When I turn the check marks off and restart the computer
the messages icon does not appear in the system tray (which is what I
want). But when I restart the computer again, the check marks are
restored and obviously the icon is once again in the system tray.

How do I permanently get this icon out of the system tray. I have no
intention of using the "feature". I know that if I right click on the
item in the tray and take the exit option it goes away but I don't want
to have to do this every time I start the system up.

Thanks for any help.

You might want to try the following:

Start Windows Messenger by right clicking the icon and select
Open.
Go to Tools -> Options -> Preferences.
Uncheck "Start Windows Messenger whenever Windows starts".
Click OK and close the program.
If you use Outlook Express for your email open it and go to
Tools -> Options.
Uncheck "Automatically logon to Windows Messenger".
If you're running a recent version of Outlook (2002 or 2003) you
might want to check it using the same procedure.
Run msconfig again, uncheck the box and restart. Repost if it
comes back.

Thanks for the directions. I followed them and hope it fixes the
problem. Makes sense that since the start was checked it would reset
the check mark.

D-click that icon, Tools - Options, uncheck 'Run when windows starts'

Also go to Outlook Express, Tools - Options uncheck 'automatically log
on to Windows messenger' and in its View - Layout uncheck 'Contacts'
(which it calls on Messenger to manage)

Tried it. It worked through 3 reboots. I guess that says it all.
Thanks very much.
