I receive an error message when I try to change the startup items in my
system utility. This error message has just recently started to appear. It
say "an access denied error was returned while attempting to change a
service. You nay need to log on using an administrator account to make
changes." I only have one account on this computer and am logged on as the
administrator. Any idea what happened?

Hi Bob,

You may indeed have something amiss with permissions, but have you done a
recent virus scan, and check for malware? They can do screwy things of that
nature too.

You should not attempt to change anything on the Services tab in
MSCONFIG. If you want to make a change to one of the startup
services, and are absolutely, totally and 100% certain that this will
not have any untoward effects on your system then you should use Start
- Run - SERVICES.MSC and reconfigure the relevant services there.

Good luck
