I know that there are many free registry cleaners about ,but are there any
that scans win.ini and system.ini and autoexec, bat for any anomalies?.I
noticed after uninstalling a prog i have" syntax error" showing when booting
my 98.This was caused by uninstalling a prog (i believe )that still left
stuff in autoexec.bat file.Is there some sort of scanner /cleaner that can
check these files for errors?

Do it yourself. Open it in notepad.

Do it yourself. Open it in notepad.
I have done it myself regarding the syntax error. However it would be much
easier if an automated programme could scan those particular files I
mentioned with pointing out the errors.A person could manually (if their
knowledge was sufficient) clean their registry manually without a regcleaner
but a free auto cleaner is prefarable in my opinion :)

Thanks for suggestion ,however msconfig doesnt tell me whats valid and whats
left over from uninstalled apps in win.ini.,config.sys,system.ini,or
autoexec.bat.Id like a programme (if there is such one) that could weed out
useless entries ..rather like a regcleaner does to the registry.
