System build

Hey everyone,

I am building a system for a buddy of mine, he will be playing a lot of
games, and doing light office work on it. I haven't built anything in about
1.5 years and I know with all the current tech., everything has to match ,
such as the 24 pin ATX opposed to the 20 pin standard. Basically, I would
like a second opinion, or to have someone look it over and tell me if
everything will fit together properly, just in case. I think I got it, but
before putting a grand on the line, wanted to double check.

For what is currently available on the street, right now and
not in the next 6 to 8 weeks, this system is "average". How
much RAM are you planning to install? Suggest a minimum of
2 GB, high-speed RAM. As for the CPU, Newegg has a good price
on the Pentium-D 950 (3.4 MHz). Otherwise, the system looks
OK. As for exterior appearance, definitely "above average".

No memory, optical drive or floppy (optional) in that list.. also, don't
spoil it with a cheap keyboard and mouse..

Alright, once again, thanx for the replies! I actually had some RAM on the
list, some Kingston Hyper X PC6200 4-4-4-12, and it was an open box item for
a reduced price, they must have taken it off my list as it sold.
He already has it optical drive, Plexwriter DVD Burner, newer, that we were
going to interchange.
I was actually wondering about the RAM and this system, the board says it
runs at 667 Standard, and the RAM was PC800, will this be backward
compatible?
He may like to upgrade later so I figured I'd bump the RAM if possible.
Also, is the Duo Core better for one thing than the single L2, or not really
worth the bother? Is the DUO Core the new thing technology is leaning
towards? Or is there yet another that's coming out?

If this build is just "Average", then what would be a higher end board?
Something running the 1066 FSB? I would at least like to get him into
something that won't be outdated in 6 months and at least get something
entry level.(I believe the current board supports this too)

To sum this up, he would indeed like to stay in the $1000 to $1200 range.

Guys, I know this actually might be slightly off topic, and I apologize, but
I will be putting a fresh new copy XP Pro on it when completed.

Thanx again for all who reply,

Doug
