Thanks again Wes,
yes troubleshooter also told me about that one but never got round to
doing anything about it as it wasn't causing any probs. but I have
followed your advice nonetheless.
Still hasn't solved my problem but.
P.S When I do have problems and thats rare these days cos I generally do
my house work, but when I do they're generaally good ones.
I thought also of doing a restore, but I'm not sure of the exact date
this problem started to occur as I foolishly have been living with it
for a while now and may have other stuff I don't want to lose.
Any way I'll send you another post later on when I go searching for some
more clues.
Thanks again Mark T.
:
M.T,
Well, shoot.
Get rid of this one...
QuickTime Task "c:\program files\quicktime\qttask.exe" -atboottime
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
qttask.exe is Quick Time Tray Icon. The Quick Time Tray Icon enables
you to start Quick Time from the System Tray. This is not needed.
First, stop qttask.exe from running with Task Manager, or qttask.exe
will get recreated.
Then, navigate to >>
c:\program files\quicktime\qttask.exe
Rename qttask.exe to qttask2.exe
The next time you boot, qttask.exe can't load and won't generate an
error message.

REgards M.T.Thanks for that Wes, tried it but didn't work. Found
another string in Datalayer also without quotes, so tried adding
there as well, still no go. P.C. HICCUPPED ON FIRST REBOOT, BUT WAS
FINE ON SECOND. Still got system 32 though. Regards M.T
:
Mark,
This one is the only likely candidate:
DataLayer c:\program files\common
files\pcsuite\datalayer\datalayer.exe
The path has spaces and does not have quotes " at the beginning and
end. Normally this would open program or common folders, never the
less.
Try this.
Open the Registry Editor...
Start | Run | Type: regedit | Click OK |
Navigate to >>
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\
CurrentVersion\Run
Export the
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\
CurrentVersion\Run key before making the change, just in case.
This will create a file called Run.reg on your Desktop.
Right click on the Run folder in the left hand pane and select:
Export. Click on Desktop on the left hand side of the Export
Registry File dialog that pops up.
Type: Run in the Filename box.
Click the Save button.
Ok, now to make the fix.
Double click on DataLayer in the right hand pane.
Add quotes " in the Value data box at the beginning and end of:
c:\program files\common files\pcsuite\datalayer\datalayer.exe
So it looks like:
"c:\program files\common files\pcsuite\datalayer\datalayer.exe"
Click OK and close the Registry Editor.
Reboot to see if the system 32 folder opens at boot.
If everything is fine, just delete the Run.reg file on your Desktop.

System32 Folder Opens When Logging on to Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=170086
For an automated Edit go here:
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm
Read the instructions at the top of the page.
Scroll down to:
260. Right hand side.
System32 Folder Opens Upon Boot
If you get this message...
[[This script cannot repair your issue. The expected Registry value
was not found.]]
Kelly's script looks for SB Audigy 2 Startup Menu value in
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
This is a real common problem with Dell machines that have an OEM
version of the Sound Blaster Audigy 2 sound card. But it isn't the
only thing that causes the System32 folder to open at startup.
See this...
How to generate a startup log using MSINFO32
http://www.winxptutor.com/msinfo32.htm
Post back with a startup log and someone will see if they can find
the startup entry thats's causing the system32 folder to open at
boot.

string in reg edit.
I have only one erroneous entry in both that is
(Default ) REG SZ (value not set)
Tried to delete these in both Local and Current but will not
allow. Any further clues,anyone
