sysprep boot time

I

itsme

Windows XP SP1, sysprep 1.1.
A couple of problems I experienced with sysprepping Windows XP SP1:

1. On the master image, the system boot time is set to 5 seconds. After
cloning the image to other PCs, some PCs inherited the 5 seconds but some
reverted back to the default 30 seconds boot time. All machines are
identical.

2. During the mini setup the license key displays for at least 5 seconds.
There is a KB regarding this problem but it pertains to Windows XP and the
fix is to apply SP1. My image is Windows XP with SP1.

Anyone out there has the same issues ? I have searched MS site but nothing
showed up. Thanks for your help.

Hello,
1) I think that the boot.ini is reset back to the system default of 30
seconds. They shouldn't be retaining the 5 second timeout value.
2) So was the machine installed with slipstreamed SP1 or was SP1 installed
after the intial setup was run. If I recall properly you have to do an
installation with slipstreamed media to get the new behavior.
from the article:
"Note For this fix to work, you must do your initial installation of the
operating system before you run Sysprep from a Windows XP Service Pack
1-integrated installation source. Installing the service pack alone will
not prevent the volume license product ID from being displayed. "
