Sysprep and Machinenames problem

Hi,

I'm pulling my hair out with a silly problem trying to ghost XP PRO to
many computers with specific naming requirements, and would like some
calming words of advice if possible.

With W2k I used to use a full sysprep.inf leaving just the machinename
blank to get the mini-wizard to prompt for the machine name, simple.
With XP if I leave it blank it just generates a random one instead of
prompting me.

I must have ghosted, sysprep, mini-wizarded a hundred images in the past
few days and they never ask me.

If I leave something else blank in the sysprep.inf it prompts me for it
no problem. (For example product ID)

Any idea how I can get it to ask for the machine name?

PS I'm using the new sysprep from XP SP1 and the command sysprep -pnp
-mini to kick it off. I can supply my current nonworking sysprep.inf if
required but basically it's:

;SetupMgrTag
[Unattended]
OemSkipEula=Yes
OemPnPDriversPath=drivers
InstallFilesPath=C:\sysprep\i386
TargetPath=\WINNT
DriverSigningPolicy=ignore

[GuiUnattended]
AdminPassword=*******
AutoLogon=Yes
AutoLogonCount=2
OEMSkipRegional=1
TimeZone=85
OemSkipWelcome=1

[UserData]
FullName=ITMANAGER
OrgName=LMU
ComputerName=

Thanks

Andy

Just a bit more info....

The only time I have got the mini setup wizard to ask me about the
machine name is when I delete the sysprep.inf I created with setupmgr
and then ran sysprep.

I have also just discovered that even if I create a new sysprep.inf with
setupmgr and leave everthing blank it still only asks me for the product
ID in the mini-wizard and nothing else.

Strange!

Andrew,

What happens if you remove the 'ComputerName =' line from the Sysprep.inf
file all together?

I have just confirmed that my sysprep.inf runs perfectly on a new clean
build of XP.

It just doesn't work on my build that has taken weeks to perfect and has
hundreds of apps ready for deployment.

Anyone know of any reg keys that sysprep could be using instead of the
..inf file?
