Syngate scan Trojan help please

John C

I have just installed a Netgear DG814 modem router and I am using Zone alarm
5.5.062.004 the Internet and Trusted zones are set to high, I have just run
syngate scan from their web site and I it tells me that checking Trojan
12345 and Trojan 54321 are closed and the following message:

This port has responded to our probes. This means that you are not running
any application on this port, but it is still possible for someone to crash
your computer through known TCP/IP stack vulnerabilities.

Should I be worried about this if so how do I block it.

Thanks in advance.

Beware of the marketing hype and bullshit. There is no problem with
ports that are closed but not "stealthed" by a firewall. Don't depend
on a software firewall to mask stack overrun vulnerabilities. Install
all critical security patches for your version of Windows.

Stealthing doesn't hide your PC or prevent port attacks. And software
firewalls may have their own vulnerabilities, adding to the insecurity
of the overall system.

Is 'syngate' the simple typo for 'Sygate', which it appears to be?

The tests on the Sygate site seem to be particularly thorough and, although
they do sell a software firewall, they also provide a well regarded free
version of that. So not necessarily an attempt to sell you something.

Cheers,

Roy
