Sync'ing Palm Pilot categories to MS Outlook

E

Eldritch

I need to do a mailing to a client list, which I've been keeping on my
Palm Pilot. I've never really used Microsoft Outlook, so I'm fumbling
around.

I've found out how to sync my Palm to Microsoft Outlook, so my client
list (and all my other lists, vendors, etc.) in in it. I will want to
print letters only for clients. In Palm, I've identified each client
using the Palm "categories" field. Microsoft Outlook also has a
category field. But the Palm categories did not sync over to Microsoft
Outlook.

I found that Microsoft Outlook has different categories set up, so I
figured if I deleted those and set up the Palm categories, the Pam
category fields would sync over to Microsoft Outlook. Did not happen.

When I do my mail merge, I'll want to sort so only the client addresses
get letters.

1) Is this possible?
2) If it's possible, can I some how sync categories over to Microsoft
Outlook? Or do I have to do them manually for each record? Or do I
have to check that box for each address before I do each merge?

What tool are you using to synch with?

Presuming that you are using the standard version of Chapura PocketMirror that comes with the Palm. The support for Categories is pretty limited in that version, I started using the Pro version for that and a few other reasons.

I am pretty sure you can buy the Pro version online from www.chapura.com, it works pretty well but you still have to compromise with Categories.

Your best bet in the first instance is to have a read of the online help for PocketMirror, I don't have the standard version installed so can't help there (also check www.chapura.com site for information).

With the Pro version you can synch them if you have fewer than 15 categories in Outlook, or you can have it create Outlook subfolders for the Palm categories.

Good luck.

The Standard version allows you to choose whether to use Outlook's
categories or to let the Palm create its own, which will show up as a
user-defined field in Outlook called "PalmPilot Category". As you stated,
the original poster should read the documentation that came with his sync
software for help with setting this up.
