Meg

hi ,

I have two different computers that I keep music and photos on. I would
like to have all the same files on both computers without having a zillion
duplicates.

if I back up one computer (computer A) and copy the folder (MY PICTURES and
MY MUSIC) to the other computer (computer B) will it add the missing files
without changing the existing files? If I then backup that computer
(computer B) and copy the same folder back to the original computer
(computer A) will it do the same. (Ex: Computer A has songs 1-10 and song
15, Computer B has songs 1-10 and song 16 - I want them to both have 1-10,
15 and 16)

-Thanks

Assuming that any duplicates have the same name on both computers, do the
following:

1. Copy the *contents* of the My Pictures and My Music folders--all the
files in those folders, not the folders themselves--from either computer to
the other. When you get a message about overwriting a file with the same
name, choose Yes to all.

2 Then copy the contents of the same folders back in the opposite direction,
again choosing Yes to all, when you get the message.

You might want to look into this free program from Microsoft:

SyncToy for Windows XP
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/digitalphotography/prophoto/synctoy.mspx

Look into the Combine action available with this program.

Good luck
