Synchronization Log

Outlook 2003 and Exchange Server 2003. Everytime I open
Outlook I get a message in the Sync Issues mailbox. The
error in the log is as follows:

8:01:55 Error synchronizing folder
8:01:55 [80040119-501-0-5C0]
8:01:55 The client operation failed
8:01:55 Microsoft Exchnage Server Information
Store
8:01:55 For more information on this failure,
click the URL below:
8:01:55
http://www.microsoft.com/support/prodredirect/outlook2000_u
s.asp?err=80040119-501-0-5c0

I've looked at the article and tried the solutions, but
nothing seemed to work.

Has anyone else seen this?

We have just upgraded to Outlook 2003 and are seeing these messages in the
Sync Issues folder also. We're running Exchange 2000. The Conflicts, Local
Failures, and Server Failures folders are all empty. Any idea what is
causing this?

This error message only occurs with offline caching enabled. For some reason I have the same problem. A new Sync Issues error every time I open Outlook 2003 (connecting to Exchange 2000) if I have offline caching enabled. It only started occuring on my machine in the last couple of days, and I'm not exactly sure what causes it. It usually occurs like this for me:

16:45:02 Synchronizer Version 11.0.5604
16:45:03 Synchronizing Mailbox 'dougv'
16:45:03 Synchronizing Hierarchy
16:45:03 Error synchronizing folder

It's definitely not a size issue with mine because I've only got 9MB of data locally, and only 7MB on the server (not sure why this is not matching either, but I'm sure it only has something to do with compression). I've tried changing the .ost file, making sure it refreshes everything, but it still sends this error, and there's no way to turn off the errors.

What boggles my mind is that it gives you a link to an Outlook 2000 help page, and not 2003... curiously, the steps to change some of the synchronization options (on this incorrect link) don't even exist in my version of outlook 2003.

I've looked through just about every damn knowledgebase page dealing with synchronization, and there's nothing. I've even tried renaming the es*.dll files that keep coming up in the work-arounds, but that does nothing also. Technet is no help, and none of my coworkers have seen this problem before.

Doug,

I found some information that says you might encounter this problem if your
Outlook profile has problems. Just to verify this, can you tell me what's in
the "Mailbox mode" box under:

1. On the Tools menu, click E-Mail Accounts.
2. Click Next.
3. Select Microsoft Exchange Server, and click Change.
4. Click More Settings.
5. Select the Advanced tab.

So, does this problem occur if you:

1. Exit Outlook.
2. <rename> any existing .ost files
3. Create a new Cached mode profile using the Mail control panel.
4. Start Outlook (and let it synch with a new .ost file for the new profile)

I've been seeing this issue often recently, numerous systems, etc., different OS, Outlook and Exchange versions. After creating a new OST file, allowing to it sync, all OK for a couple of days, then again, consistent errors, items going into the Local Failures folder, etc.
