Synchronising between domain servers

Hi all,

I have two servers, one as primary and the other as backup domain server.
Both was install with AD.
Recently the primary has corrupted and I reconfigure it all over again. The
backup domain (BDC) seems connected to primary server which has been
reconfigured as I can see all user account being duplicated over, but when I
tried adding user in BDC, it saids it is not in production yet, therefore no
account can be created.

I do have installed DNS on primary and the bdc's dns server is pointing to
primary's dns domain.

My questions are:
1) May I know how to do I actually synchronise these two server such that
when primary server is down, I can immediately swtich to BDC and promote it
to primary server?

2) How do I promote bdc to become primary domain controller? What are the
steps needed to do this?

Any advice is much appreciated.

Warm regards

The is no such thing as PDC and BDC in win2000. If the PDC role holder
crashes and will not come back online as is with out rebuild then you can
sieze all 5 FSMO roles to the other DC. Most of the time i change the IP
address so that the machines can find DNS. If you are just wanting the
other DC to authinicate logons when the primary server is down you will need
to make it a Global Cataloge and have the servers IP in all computers DNS
server settings.
