Sync Outlook between laptop and PC

All I would like to be able to do is sync my outlook calendar and contacts
between my laptop and computer without having to go outside to a third party
software.
 
unless you use live/hotmail or exchange server, you'll need to copy the pst
between the computers.

I tried publishing to live, but for some reason I can not get the calander
to update for me.
