Symbol Conversion?

Excel 2000 ... My column contains the following ... How do
I clean, format or otherwise convert (or whatever?) these
various symbols in order to achieve just plain text?
(Note: the various brackets are ok ... The issue is the A
with the symbol on top & the AE crunched together) ...

More info ... Cell contents originally created in WORD
using Symbols which had different FONTS. Word then pasted
to Excel where cell contents now contains Symbols with
mulitple Font Styles. I did not know how to correct other
than to select each cell ... then each symbol ... & then
select the correct font for the symbol ... Thanks ... Kha
